The ‘Multi-Hazard Preparedness Plan for Emergency Response and Evacuation’ training session targeting small tourism establishments on inner Praslin and La Digue, organised by the Planning and Preparedness Unit of the Division in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, commenced on Praslin from Monday 2nd September 2024 to Tuesday 3rd September 2024, and ended on La Digue, Wednesday 4th September 2024.
According to the Tourism Development Act 2019, all licensed tourism establishments are under legal obligations to comply with the minimum requirements for disaster preparedness and risk management. Therefore, through the training sessions led by Ms. Aisha Rachel, Head of the Planning and Preparedness Unit, the representatives from small tourism establishments were interactively equipped with the required knowledge and tools to successfully draft an Emergency Management Plan which will safeguard lives, promote business continuity and minimise potential hazards in the event of an emergency.
Following the sessions, after taking into consideration the feedback provided by the participants it was collectively agreed upon for the Division to conduct drills and exercises to test the small tourism establishments’ Emergency Management Plans and the dates for the review of the first draft has been allocated.
