In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Disaster Risk Management Division, hosted a workshop at the Seychelles Institute for Teacher Education (SITE), Thursday 19th September 2024.

The primary objective of this workshop was to empower school leaders with effective Disaster Risk Reduction strategies and to raise awareness about their crucial role in educating children and youth on these issues.

The workshop also aimed to shift focus of Disaster Risk Reduction from responsive to proactive approach, thus, enhancing preparedness measures.

Additionally, the workshop serve as a gateway of integrating Disaster Risk Reduction into national school curricula, either as a standalone subject or through existing courses like Geography and Physics, as well as extracurricular activities such as school clubs.

Moreover, school leaders also had the opportunity to express their concerns regarding specific risks and challenges faced by their respective schools.

Following this workshop, the Disaster Management Division will develop sensitization strategies to support teachers in implementing Disaster Risk Reduction practices. This will enable educators to effectively teach students about best practices for minimizing vulnerabilities to risks and disasters.
