In partnership with the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs (MLGCA), the Disaster Risk Management Division (DRMD) has launched a pilot risk profiling project on La Digue.

As part of DRMD’s mandate to coordinate inter-agency efforts, the task force was divided into two groups: Group A and Group B. Group A, responsible for assessing La Digue’s drainage management system and identifying hazardous trees along the roads, while Group B, focused on public health issues and residential estates.

The project began today, Thursday, 19th December 2024, and will run ovwr a period of two days, concluding on Friday, 20th December 2024. Such initiative follows a previous risk assessment conducted on the island a few years ago.

Following this initial activity, DRMD, in collaboration with other key partners, will carry out a comprehensive risk profiling assessment, along with public sensitisation activities aimed at enhancing disaster risk preparedness and raising awareness of Disaster Risk Reduction among La Digue residents.

Other participating entities in the project include the Landscape and Waste Management Agency (LWMA), the Seychelles Fire and Rescue Service Agency (SFRSA), the Seychelles Police Force (SPF), the Public Health Agency (PHA), and the Property Management Corporation (PMC).
