In a major step towards enhancing the nation’s emergency response capabilities, the Disaster Risk Management Division (DRMD) has proudly welcomed four new recruits to serve as watch-standers in the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC). This development comes as the NEOC transitions to a critical 24/7 operational capacity.

As specified in the Disaster Risk Management Act, 2014, NEOC will serve as the national emergency headquarter for coordinating national emergency response to an alert, event or disaster. Therefore, the new watch-standers are set to undergo an intensive training program, designed to sharpen their skills and prepare them for the high-pressure environment of emergency management. The program will equip them with the tools necessary to effectively handle emergency calls and provide immediate guidance and assistance to those in need.

Tasked with the crucial responsibility of answering emergency calls through the national emergency line, 999, these watch-standers will serve as the first point of contact for individuals in distress. Their role involves not only providing calm and effective support to callers but also directing them to the appropriate emergency services, ensuring rapid and coordinated action.
