The Disaster Risk Management Division (DRMD) participated in the National Validation Workshop for the Early Warning for All Roadmap workshop as the leading agency for Pillar 1 (Disaster Risk Knowledge). The workshop was organised by the Seychelles Meteorological Authority (SMA) on, Thursday 23rd January 2024, at the Savoy Seychelles Resort and Spa.

Early Warning for All (EW4ALL) is a global imitative comprising of four fundamental pillars aiming to ensure that everyone on Earth is protected by an Early Warning Systems (EWS) by the year 2027. The initiative was officially launched last year, July 2024, in Seychelles by DRMD in partnership with the Seychelles Meteorological Authority (SMA) leading Pillar 2 (Observations and Forecasting), the Department of Information and Communication (DICT) leading Pillar 3 (Dissemination and Communication) and the Red Cross Society of Seychelles (RCSS) leading Pillar 4 (Preparedness to Respond).

In preparation for the validation workshop, the gaps and challenges of the Current Early Warning System (EWS) identified during the launch were compiled and consolidated by local pillar leads and international stakeholders to develop effective roadmaps and action plans.

During the workshop, a representative from each pillar lead presented their respective roadmap and action plan outlining their roles and responsibilities, the essential capacity building required to effectively implement the global initiative in Seychelles. Moreover, the technicalities of refining the Steering Committee previously established during the launch workshop, as a technical multi-stakeholder group charged with monitoring and evaluating the implementation of each pillar’s roadmap and action plan and the drafting of a National EW4ALL roadmap and action plan.

In conclusion, through the National Validation Workshop for EW4ALL Roadmap all local stakeholders present were able to understand their roles in assisting and supporting the EW4ALL initiative within the four fundamental pillars.
