The Education Research and Information (ERI) Unit of the Disaster Risk Management Division (DRMD) in partnership with Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) organised a Youth Forum for members of the Seychelles National Youth Assembly (SNYA) last week, Saturday 5th October 2024, at STC Conference room.
As all children and youths have the right to safety, security and protection from disasters, the forum was catered to raise awareness among the participants on the importance of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), and provide a platform to openly discuss the effects of disasters in Seychelles. This activity was organised under the theme: Empowering the Next Generation for a Resillent Future in commemoration of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction 2024. This year’s theme emphasises on the role of education in protecting and empowering youth for a disaster-free future.
To foster a fruitful forum the SNYA Members were given a well-rounded introduction to DRMD’S mandate, functions and operation’s structure.
Following the presentation participants were engaged into a Table Top Exercise, whereby they were given the opportunity to present their views as young disaster managers of Seychelles.
Facilitating the workshop were Ms. Jade Landry, Head of the Education, Research and Information (ERI) unit, accompanied by Ms. Annicka Chetty, and Mr. Daniel Agnes from the Planning and Preparedness Unit and Mr. Miguel Malbrook, from the Disaster Risk Mitigation Unit.
