Spearheaded by the Seychelles Vulnerability Assessment Committee (SezVAC), the ‘Vulnerability Assessment and Analysis Scoping Mission Workshop’ was organised by the Disaster Risk Management Division (DRMD) in collaboration with the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and World Food Programme (WFP). The workshop was held at the Berjaya Resort from Monday 26th January 2025 to Thursday 30th January 2025.

The primary objective of the workshop was to initiate the development of a Vulnerability Assessment and Analysis (VAA) framework by discussing the appropriate methodologies for collecting and processing data and identifying the gaps and weaknesses that various government sectors face in covering vulnerable groups.

As the participants gained an understanding on the importance of engaging with the SezVAC in the development of national policies and frameworks, a roadmap was designed outlining the way forward for developing the SezVAC framework, highlighting the role of each representative of SezVAC and local stakeholders present.

SezVAC, established in 2021 under the Disaster Risk Management Act, 2014, is nationally responsible for collecting data on vulnerable groups and conducting risks assessments to support the Government and relevant stakeholders in improving Early Warning Systems and developing national strategies for poverty reduction and Disaster Risk Reduction initiatives.

Representing DRMD were Director General of DRMD and Chairperson of SezVAC, Mr. Robert Ernesta accompanied by Ms. Catherina Bonnelame, Senior Risk Management Officer, Ms. Maria Sirame, Senior Office Assistant and Secretary of SezVAC, Ms. Hannah Qautre, Risk Management Technician, and Ms. Juliette Jeanny, Risk Management Technician.
