In an effort to enhance risk communication in Seychelles, the Disaster Risk Management Division (DRMD), in partnership with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), organized a three-day training workshop titled Strengthening Risk Communication.
Held at the Berjaya Hotel and Casino from Tuesday 11th to Thursday 13th March 2025, the workshop aims to strengthen risk communication practices in Seychelles by focusing on building capacity, fostering collaboration, and providing media professionals and public relations officers with the necessary tools to develop effective risk communication strategies.
The first day of the workshop saw the participation of media professionals, public relations experts, and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) practitioners, who engaged in a series of sessions discussing the critical role of the media in DRR. The sessions highlighted the challenges faced in risk communication, including barriers such as misinformation and disinformation.
The second day of the workshop will focus on segmenting target audiences and developing SMART objectives for effective risk communication. On the final day, participants will have the opportunity to develop and present their own risk communication content, as well as engage in discussions on the best approach to communication practices.
