In 2004, Seychelles was hit by the Indian Ocean Tsunami. This experience was a wake-up call for Seychelles. To prevent a new disaster, the country is taking several actions. In November 2023, Seychelles participated in a training to embark on the Tsunami Ready Programme led by UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanic Commission and the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG). The country also raised awareness for the World Tsunami awareness day 2023, through a motorcade event, supported by UNDRR.
